Short bio
Leyla Samodurova is a visual artist born in 1992. She was born in, lives and works in Moscow.
She studied painting in the studios of Ella Božović from 2007 and Radomir Knežević in 2012, and received her professional art education at SLŠ PETAR LUBARDE (Montenegro), Belgrade State Art Institute FLU (Serbia) and the Institute of Fine Arts of Moscow Pedagogical State University (Russia).
Since 2007 she has taken part in group exhibitions in Montenegro, Serbia and Russia. In 2026 she received the “Aluminium Reed” Prize at the III Swamp Biennale; in 2011 she won second place at the 16th International Exhibition of Art Works (Slovenia) and the Golden Palette award at the “St. Cyril and Methodius” studio, Bitola (Macedonia).
Until 2019 she worked in the non-profit sector making art with seriously ill children — an experience reflected in her method of making and bandaging a series of sculptures as a metaphor for accepting pain and healing.
